Urdu Literacy
This was our first project.
We began by persuading house maids not to take their children with them when they went to work but instead give us an hour and a half each day for three months so that their children could learn to read and write basic Urdu and so better understand the world around them.
This is a continuous uphill task as the child is a part bread earner for the family.
To ensure that these children continue to attend classes, incentives are provided to the mothers in the form of Cash and Rations and the children are provided outings and allowed to sit on the computers for three hours each week where they play educational games and mind expanding exercises.
Recently adult females have also shown an interest in these classes and we have now special classes for them. |
